Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens, better than Queen Latifah the United States is a performer and actress. Her performance as a singer, music actor, filmmaker and TV performer has won the actress the distinction of two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also was awarded an Grammy Award as well as six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah was born in and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita teacher who taught for Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Jr. a police officer. The couple split when Latifah was ten years old. was ten years old. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah was her stage name before she reached the age of eight. It means fragile in Arabic. Latifah was always large, at 5'10" and was the power forward of her high-school basketball team. The number she sang was Home from the show The Wiz in a high school play. Latifah began her career as a beatboxer with the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah is one of the founding members of Flavor Unit, which was at the time a group composed of MCs led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King, recorded a version of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. He gave the recording to the host of Yo! MTV Raps who is known as Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was a member of Latifah in the early days, was impressed by her track. In 1988 she released Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's first single.
